Redcliffe was founded by Captain Francis Cadell in 1848 as an agricultural area for growing fruit trees and vegetables to supply his shipbuilding business at North Stradbroke Island (then known as Moreton Bay Islands). Redcliffe became part of Hot Land District Municipality when it was formed from part of Yeerongpilly Divisional Board on 19 December 1879. It included Kippa-Ring, Clontarf and Woody Point which split away with their own municipalities between 1893 and 1902.[2]
The first land sales occurred during 1853 with allotments being made available for purchase by Europeans only; however Chinese people were permitted to lease land until they were prohibited from doing so after Federation.[3]
